Robert E Gaines - Chairman

 

Bobby originally began his working life as a Mechanical and Plant Engineer. Since 1984, he has been involved in property maintenance and property development. He now carries out part-time Consultancy work. Bobby joined the Towpath Trust Board of Directors during 2003. 

Margaret Neill

Margaret is a founder member of The Towpath Trust.  Her background is in finance and book-keeping within a variety of organisations as diverse as Local Authorities to University Research.  This included her role as book-keeper for the World Federation of Medical Education.   In 2005, she retired as Chief Executive of Revive Scotland MS Support.

Margaret outside interests include hill walking and rambling.

Ian Bone

Ian retired as Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Professor of Neurology at the Southern General Hospital in March 2006. He had worked there since 1978 and had developed a wide interest in Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke and Epilepsy. He has served on various National and International advisory committees, has published over 100 scientific papers and written and edited 3 textbooks. Ian has been a Director of the Towpath Trust since March 2007 combining this with a research post with the Medical Research Council.


Ian Glassey

 

Ian has worked in the voluntary sector for twenty years during which time he has gained extensive knowledge in all fundraising disciplines and practices. He started his fundraising career with 'Help the Aged' as a Community Projects Adviser with responsibility for advising and directing groups on projects for specialised transport for the elderly, home based emergency alarms and major captical projects for purpose built day care centres for the elderly. Since then he has worked as Fundraising Manager with Alzheimer Scotland-Action on Dementia, Director of fundraising with the Scottish Bobath Association and Appeal Director with the £2.2M Scottish Seabird Centre Project in North Berwick outside Edinburgh.

Ian set up Charitytreck, trading name of G.B Walks Limited, one of Scotland's leading service providers in the organisation and management of fully supported sponsored and non-sponsored walks/treks for voluntary sector organisations, companies , community groups and individuals throughout the UK. Ian is a full member of the Institute of Fundraising.

Tim Bone

Tim's background is in the biomedical sciences and nursing studies. He graduated from Glasgow University in 1997 with an Honours degree in Molecular Biology and completed a diploma in nursing studies from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2005. Having lived with epilepsy all his life he has always shown an interest in helping and empowering those with physical disability address the psychosocial issues that their disability creates for them. He has played this role in both paid and voluntary capacities as a support worker, tutor on chronic disease self management courses, advocacy worker, befriender and information officer. He currently runs a self management course for those with physical disbility who are of working age in his role as an education officer and is involved in the growth of present services provided by the Towpath Trust and the development of future services in his role as a development officer.

Lesley Neill

Lesley’s role within The Towpath Trust is administration support. Her background is mainly within the Leisure Industry but has been involved within other Charity organisations for 7 years.

 

Mhairi Coutts

Mhairi Coutts is a registered nurse working in a variety of settings, inlcuding care of the elderly, rehab, community, acute medical and homeopathic. She recently left the post of MS Specialist nurse after 7 years, and is currently working as a disability assessment nurse.

Her hobbies inlcude singing - Mhairi is a member of local choir, The Springburn Praise Group - and she also enjoys running.
