About Us

The Towpath Trust a recognized charity based in Maryhill Glasgow and has recently undertaken a feasibility study to determine the need for a Neurosupport Centre in Glasgow for charities working with people affected by Neurological conditions.

The study was carried out in partnership with the Department of Development and Regeneration Services  of  Glasgow City Council  and The Towpath Trust.

The Towpath Trust is an umbrella organisation formed in 1999 as a consequence of many Neurological Charities having similar accommodation and administrative requirements. The Towpath Trust currently meets such needs for various Charities at the Maryhill Centre in Chapel Street, Glasgow. Chapel Street Industrial Estate based in Maryhill, Glasgow has eight converted units held on separate leases by various Charities, providing services to their own client group. Current space is limited and cannot satisfy the growing demand for the facilities that exist at Chapel Street Industrial Estate.

The Towpath Trust is involved in discussions with the Department of Development & Regeneration Service of Glasgow City Council to examine the possibility of creating a purpose built facility that would bring various Neurological Charities together under one roof.  This facility would ideally be large enough to accommodate each individual charity’s provision of services to its own client group. Potential Council owned locations are being considered in Glasgow for this Neurosupport Centre. After discussion with the Department of Development & Regeneration Services, it is envisaged that the land for the Neurosupport Centre will be provided on a concessionary long term lease basis by Glasgow City Council.

The partners involved in funding the Feasibility Study are : Glasgow City Council and the Big Lottery (Investing in Ideas Fund).

Charities locating within the Neurosupport Centre will lease accommodation from The Towpath Trust as a “not for profit” facility. All revenue received will be utilised for infrastructure running costs.

The Feasibility Study has clarified through liaison with the relevant charities the range of required facilities required. The Neurosupport Centre will be designed to accommodate an optimum provision of services and needs of each individual charity.

The Scottish Government, Neuroscience Foundation and the Neurologists at the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, have all expressed interest and support for this development as a model of sharing resources at a “HUB” Centre.
